The Northwest Austin Youth Basketball Association exists to serve kids first and foremost. Our mission is to provide a fun, team-oriented environment where young athletes learn the game of basketball, develop strong fundamentals, improve their skills, and experience the positive values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance.
As a recreational league, winning is not our priority, growth is. We strive to help every player understand both the joy of victory and the lessons that come from defeat, building resilience, confidence, and character along the way.
Our volunteer board members and coaches are committed to teaching the game of basketball the right way, with patience, encouragement, and a focus on fundamentals. They dedicate their time and energy to creating a positive, team-first environment where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to improve. More than just teaching plays and skills, they work to build confidence, character, and a love for the game so that each player leaves the season wanting to come back, continue growing, and keep playing for years to come.
In normal years, practices start first week of November and the season culminates with a tournament in mid February. There are typically two events per week, an event being a practice or a game. Events are held at our partner facilities including Burnett, Murchison and Lamar Middle Schools, the Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, and St. Paul Lutheran School (38th & Red River). Events are scheduled for weekday evenings 6:00-9:30pm, Saturdays 9am-5pm, and Sundays 2pm-6pm, with younger players scheduled as early as possible on weekday evenings. Last minute rescheduling of games and practices may occur when conflicts arise with AISD events, which take precedence, or inclement weather.
